Injury Expert: Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin takes big step towards fitness with trip to Germany

We’re delighted to welcome injury expert Dr Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the injury situation at Everton...

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin flew to Germany to improve his injury record and overall fitness, claims Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert believes it could have an impact on ensuring that he’s fit more frequently – having missed a major chunk of the 2022/23 campaign.

The Daily Mail reported on 8 June that he flew to a training clinic in Munich used by Manuel Neuer and David Alaba, to work on his injury.

Speaking exclusively with Goodison News, Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and Sports Scientist, said, “Neuro training centre is quite vague as a description but based on the video, it looks to be a lot of reactive and balance work with a combination of bands, and spontaneous perturbations which means pushing the plan and forcing their body to react in different scenarios and banded work.

“I would term this neuromuscular training which is the system that connects the nerves and the muscles – if the muscles are the machinery, the nerves are the wiring.

“It can help reduce injury risk while improving performance and the best case scenario would be a significant improvement.”

The past two seasons have not been ideal for Calvert-Lewin and it has coincided with Everton’s dip in form as well with them fighting relegation battles.

In the 2022/23 season, he could feature in just 17 out of 38 league games for the Toffees and it was the exact same thing in the 2021/22 campaign as well.

However, this past season, he managed to score just two goals compared to five in the campaign Frank Lampard kept them up courtesy of Richarlison.

The club will be hoping that he can work on his fitness in the off season and return fresh for pre-season training in a few weeks.

In Everton news, Alan Myers has shared a major update on Sean Dyche’s future after a development over his sacking has emerged over the past few days.
