The 34-year-old was stretchered off the pitch in the club’s 2-2 draw with Leicester City at the beginning of May.

Coleman is heading into his 15th season with the Toffees after signing a new one-year contract until the end of June 2024.

“The 34-year-old will return to Finch Farm next week in order to continue his recovery from a knee injury sustained in the away draw at Leicester City,” according to the Liverpool Echo.

Vital figure

Coleman was definitely missed at Everton in the final stages of last season following his injury, with the club captain a key figure both on and off the pitch.

The Toffees were desperately short of such figures last time out, with manager Sean Dyche just about able to work his magic to save them from relegation to the Championship.

His passion and determination in blue are fantastic traits, while his leadership behind the scenes is undoubtedly helpful to other members of the squad, particularly those at the beginning of their careers.

The right-back is much-loved at Goodison Park, and it’s clear to see why, with his hard work now being rewarded with a one-year extension amid doubts surrounding his short-term future.

However, first and foremost for the veteran defender is getting fit and fully recovering from his unfortunate knee injury, with Coleman set for an intense pre-season ahead of the new campaign.

In other Everton news, one Toffees ace is attracting “significant interest”, he wants a return to his former club.
