Rodrigo more likely to join Everton than Arnaut Danjuma as Alan Myers shares transfer news

Amid rumours of Everton re-entering talks with Arnaut Danjuma, Sky Sports journalist Alan Myers has stated in a tweet that he believes there’s more chance of the club signing Rodrigo from Leeds this summer.

Everton have been linked to both forwards in this transfer window, while Rodrigo has most recently been expected to make the move to Qatar, although this deal will now be called into question following Myers’ statement.

There have been reports in the last 24 hours that Everton will pursue a deal for Danjuma, who shocked the club in January after performing a U-turn on his deal with the club, instead opting to join Antonio Conte’s Tottenham on loan for the rest of the season.

Toffees need Rodrigo more than Danjuma, but why not both?

Everton are in desperate need for a striker due to Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury issues and Neal Maupay’s inconsistency in front of goal, while the latter is also being linked with a move away. The club have been linked to Coventry’s Viktor Gyokeres, but a move for Rodrigo also makes sense with his Premier League experience.

The 30-year-old reportedly has a £3million relegation release clause in his contract which has been triggered by Leeds’ exit from the Premier League, so the deal makes sense for the Merseyside club who are restricted by financial rules.

However, if Danjuma is available on loan, there is no reason the move for Rodrigo would block his path to joining. Able to operate as a striker or on either wing, the Villarreal man offers a different style to Rodrigo and would give Everton some versatility to their forward line.

In the Premier League, there is no such thing as too many options up front, with quality strength in depth key to any successful season.
