Everton transfer news as possible deal for Willy Gnonto labelled ‘slightly unrealistic’

An Everton deal for Leeds star Willy Gnonto looks unlikely this summer with finances an issue, as the deal is branded “slightly unrealistic” by journalist Paul Brown.

As reported by Brown, speaking to GiveMeSport [2 July], Everton would be unable to compete with other interested clubs, with the Leeds star likely to cost a premium figure.

The suggestion that a move for Gnonto would be unrealistic comes following reports emerged linking the Italian to clubs of the stature of Inter Milan, Arsenal and Manchester City. Whether any of these deals materialise or not, Everton fall outside of that bracket with what they can offer.

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Brown said: “He’s still a teenager, on a long contract.

“Normally that means you pay a premium for both of those things to get that sort of player out of the club. I see that one as being slightly unrealistic unless there is some reason for Everton to have hope that hasn’t become public yet.”

Setting high expectations.

While any deal for Gnonto may be unlikely given the financial situation at the club, these types of targets will be promising news to Everton fans as the club look to be showing ambition in the transfer market, with young talented players seemingly the focus.

The Italian winger would be a brilliant signing for any club he moves to, following an eye-catching debut season in the Premier League with his pace, technique and dribbling ability wowing crowds at Elland Road, making him an instant fan-favourite.

There is a suggestion as well that this type of player, who is able to lift the mood of a stadium with a piece of skill and trickery, has been missing at Goodison Park for a number of years now. That type of influence on a crowd can be invaluable during difficult periods.

With Gnonto seemingly off the list of targets, Everton are still yet to do a deal so far this summer, with financial restrictions limiting the club’s ambition.

In other Everton news, a journalist has reported ‘serious money’ could be involved in a deal for Everton ace.
