Everton transfer news as Ashley Young representatives make offer
Everton have been offered the chance to sign former Aston Villa defender Ashley Young by his representatives, according to journalist Jacque Talbot.
The 37-year-old officially left Villa at the end of last month following the conclusion of his contract at the club where he started.
Young re-signed for the club in 2021, making a total of 53 appearances in the second spell as he helped the club to return to playing European football in the new season, and according to Football Transfers journalist Talbot, his agents have offered his services to both Everton and Luton Town.
Taking to his personal Twitter account on Saturday morning (8 July), he wrote: “Understand Ashley Young’s representatives have offered wing-back to Everton and Luton Town.”
Left-back cover needed
There may well be reservations at Goodison Park to secure Young’s services on a free this summer, given his age but with Everton desperate to explore free-agent deals and bargain opportunities, this may be one Sean Dyche may be tempted to pursue.
Young was terrific for Unai Emery and Villa last season, as the West Midlands outfit had to deal with numerous injuries at full-back for which the England international performed superbly showing tremendous energy and athleticism despite his latter years at the top level.

The Toffees will be desperate for some reinforcements at full-back this summer, especially at left-back with Vitaly Mykolenko the only option in the position, while reinforcements may well be needed at right-back with Seamus Coleman yet to return to full fitness.
Considering Everton’s lack of funds right now and the opportunity to have another leader and experienced head in a severely depleted team, Young certainly represents a smart opportunity if they can get him for a year.
However, with Luton Town also emerging on the scene for his signature, Everton will need to act fast if they desire to pursue the move.
In other Everton news, the Toffees are also “hopeful” of wrapping up a cut-price deal for a proven top-flight scorer despite mega-rich competition.
