Everton transfer window ‘100% a big concern’ amid MSP Sports Capital investment delay – Sky Sports pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Doubts over whether Everton are capable of adequately strengthening during the transfer window are “100% a big concern, according to Kevin Campbell.

Despite links to various players so far there hasn’t been a hint of any early business being close to completion yet, after a January transfer window where zero new arrivals came through the doors – apart from Arnaut Danjuma who turned around and went back out again to leave the club “furious and surprised”.

And with Everton still waiting to get their investment deal with MSP Sports Capital all tied up, amid a suggestion it could still be weeks away, Campbell isn’t feeling relaxed over Sean Dyche’s hopes in the transfer market currently.

“100%. It’s a big concern,” the Sky Sports pundit exclusively told Goodison News of his worries for the transfer window.

“We’re still waiting on the investment, that hasn’t gone through yet. We know sometimes that could take a bit of time.

“But the Everton players are back now and the manager, I’m sure he wants to get moving and improving the squad.

“But again, this is the problem. What’s going on upstairs is to the detriment of the team and the manager.

“So it’s going to be a tough time.”

Everton

Everton have barely escaped relegation two seasons in a row so it could hardly be clearer that the squad isn’t good enough, and the ongoing failures in the transfer market compound that situation in a major way.

There is plenty of blame to go around at Goodison Park when it comes to the finances being so tight after years of wasted money, but Dyche, and even Kevin Thelwell, can’t be held responsible as they’ve been operating on a shoestring since they each arrived.

The MSP Sports Capital money is largely expected to be swallowed up by the new stadium development so in terms of a transfer budget the manager and the sporting director are basically faced with coming up with their own funds.

That necessarily means weakening an already uneven squad before they can start tackling additions, which is clearly a very difficult task.

A couple of key additions and transfer panic would subside, even with plenty more to do, but so far the manager has lost Conor Coady, Yerry Mina, Asmir Begovic, Tom Davies, and Ellis Simms from his first-team squad, with the likes of Lewis Gibson and Ishe Samuels-Smith also exiting, yet coming the opposite direction it’s been barren.
