Everton in hot pursuit of Anthony Elanga as Manchester United exit development emerges

Everton are in the hunt to sign Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga, according to Foot Mercato.

The French news outlet reported on Tuesday (11 July) that Elanga, 21, could quit Old Trafford this summer after struggling for game-time with Man United last season in the Premier League.

It is understood that Everton tried to sign the Sweden international in January but will try more aggressively this summer, which could convince the attacker to head down the M62 to Merseyside.

Worth a try

Everton need to be clever with their recruitment this summer because their overspending under Farhad Moshiri means they are still limited by Financial Fair Play rules.

Players have already left Goodison this summer and some more could be flogged too for Sean Dyche and Kevin Thelwell to net a bit more money to spend.

Elanga might not be an expensive option for Everton.

The Swedish attacker has been on United’s books since 2014 but his 55 senior appearances for them doesn’t really do him justice.

For the sake of his career, he needs to leave Man United either on loan or permanently.

Could Everton afford a permanent deal? Potentially, yes. However, United have Elanga locked down to another three years as his contract doesn’t expire until 2026.

Working out a loan-to-buy arrangement could suit Everton as it may mean they’ll be able to afford a permanent buy next season if Elanga does well on his temporary spell on Merseyside.

We’d be happy with this signing.

In other Everton news, the club could come to regret a decision to let this player go
