Everton now favourites to sign Anthony Elanga as Fabrizio Romano details negotiations with Man United

Fabrizio Romano has revealed Everton have now moved into pole position to sign Anthony Elanga from Manchester United.

The transfer guru tweeted on Tuesday night (12 July) that there are a number of other clubs interested in the Swedish international, but that the Toffees are now “favourites” and negotiations are ongoing with the Red Devils.

The 21-year-old is being allowed to leave Old Trafford after making just seven starts under Erik ten Hag in all competitions last season.

Speaking to BT Sport about Elanga last year after he helped his side beat Brentford, Man United legend Rio Ferdinand said: “Superstars all around him. He had loads and loads of clubs try to loan him because they’ve seen what he’s done in the teams, under-23s etc. The run there was phenomenal.

“He makes the full-back have to be honest in the game because he’ll test you. He’ll run in behind – that goal epitomised how he wants to play, running behind the full-backs, test him, make him have to defend and he asks questions of defenders and that’s what you want him to do.”

Elanga is exactly the sort of player Everton should be looking to bring in and it would be a fantastic signing if they can get a deal over the line.

Although the Liverpool Echo is reporting that the Red Devils may be happier to loan him out, the news outlet believes they may entertain offers in the region of £10million.

If the Toffees can secure a young player of Elanga’s ability for such a small fee, that would be massive for the club given the ongoing financial constraints.

The Swede brings plenty of excitement every time he steps out onto the pitch, picking the ball up deep and making direct runs at opposing defenders to try and get in behind and make things happen.

He has stalled a little bit since Ten Hag arrived at Old Trafford, but he could quickly get back up to speed and would likely be a fan’s favourite at Goodison Park.

In other Everton news, Sean Dyche has made a decision on some of the club’s key players.
