Sweden journalist mocks Everton for trying to sign Anthony Elanga as news emerges on Thursday
Swedish journalist Wilhelm Edlund has mocked Everton on Twitter following the signing of Ashley Young amid the club’s pursuit of Anthony Elanga.
The Toffees confirmed the arrival of the experienced former England international on 13 July after he signed a one-year deal at Goodison Park.
Everton have also been linked with a move for Swedish international Elanga and the journalist, who works for Stockholm-headquartered newspaper Expressen, responded to the capture of Young by tweeting “Here we have proof that Everton is not the best choice in the world for Elanga”.
Forget the past
Everton has built a reputation in recent years for players’ careers declining once they sign on at Goodison Park, but that’s predominantly because they have brought in too many players that have been past their peak.
Elanga is at the complete opposite end of his career to a number of those previous signings and, if he were to join, he would be desperate to prove what he can do in front of the loyal fanbase.
While the signing of Young may look like another one of the typical additions they have grown accustomed to making, he proved last year that he does still have the desire to play at the highest level and offers great versatility.

The former Aston Villa man also played in the wide positions for the majority of his career – for England and clubs such as Manchester United – so he is by no means the worst player for Elanga to learn from either.
The potential signing of the 21-year-old shows the Toffees are looking to move in a different direction and he shouldn’t be put off by previous signings’ failures.
In other Everton news, an injury to a Toffees target has provided a blow to their summer spending plans.
