£70m Jordan Pickford exit development emerges at Everton, Manchester United make transfer decision

Everton are demanding £70million for goalkeeper Jordan Pickford amid interest from Manchester United, according to the Daily Star Sunday.

The newspaper reported via their print edition on Sunday (16 July, page 44) that Erik ten Hag had been keen on signing the 29-year-old to replace David De Gea. However, the “surprisingly large” price tag has forced Man United to look at signing Inter Milan’s Andre Onana instead.

It is understood that Man United had hoped to sign Pickford for £45million due to Everton’s financial issues.

Miscalculation

Man United were quite far away from Everton’s valuation of Pickford, so much so that their interest was nipped in the bud nice and early.

That’s a good move by the Blues, who have to be credited for the way they’ve handed the future of England’s number one despite all the turmoil going on at Goodison Park.

Before Premier League safety was sealed, Everton had managed to get Pickford to agree a contract that did not include a release clause that would be triggered in the event of relegation.

Doing that was a massive statement of intent by both Everton and also Pickford, who is no doubt going down as a modern-day legend at Goodison Park for the way he’s behaved and the way he’s performed in recent seasons.

He’s easily the best goalkeeper we’ve had since Neville Southall.

Everton won’t get anyone bidding £70million for Pickford – but that’s the whole point.

We don’t want to sell and based on this, we won’t be.

In other Everton news, an agreement claim has emerged with the Blues bidding to sign an impressive striker.
