Sean Dyche acknowledges ‘tough situation’ for Everton as he delivers transfer update

Sean Dyche acknowledges it is a “tough situation” for Everton in regards to the transfer window this summer.

Thus far, the Toffees’ only piece of business is to bring in 38-year-old Ashley Young on a free transfer.

Everton are reportedly still working under tight financial constraints this window, but have been linked to the likes of Leeds United forward Wilfried Gnonto and Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Dyche was asked to provide an update on Everton’s transfer business, to which he said: “We’ll just wait and see.

“We’re active and are trying to open up situations. It’s a tough situation all round because money often makes deals go through.

“It’s not just that – I say it all the time – people have got to agree things.

“We’re active, people are working very, very hard to see what we can do in the market.”

Everton need bodies

The Echo’s report really highlights Everton’s issue, with it saying six first-team players have departed since Sean Dyche arrived as manager at Goodison Park.

Dyche did not even use his full quota of allowed substitutions for the final game of the season – the 1-0 win over Bournemouth that secured Premier League football after another tense relegation scrap.

Everton, though, are still walking a Financial Fair Play tightrope, and any business is going to need to be thought out with an eye on remaining within the constraints.

It makes life difficult for Dyche, but luckily in the former Burnley boss the Toffees have a manager who has worked under tight budgets before at Burnley at can spot a bargain.

He will need to find several this window as Everton have several holes to plug and not a great deal of time in which to plug them. They need to get busy and they need bodies in the door.

In other Everton news, a Sky Sports pundit has reacted to the Toffees’ pursuit of Leeds pair Crysencio Summerville and Jack Harrison.
