Everton signing of Anthony Elanga has potential to pay off, Man United think a lot of him

Everton are looking to signing Anthony Elanga from Manchester United even though his current club still “think a lot of him,” according to Phil Brown.

The Toffees have been strongly linked with a move for the Swedish winger this summer, with the Manchester Evening News reporting on 13 July that the Red Devils are looking for a fee in the region of £10million.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, journalist Brown has questioned whether Man United will actually sell the 21-year-old after he came through the ranks at the club.

“I think people still do think a lot of him at United,” he added. “It’s just he’s not likely to get many chances there, so if they were able to get him, I think that one has potential to pay off in the future.

“Whether Man United would actually sanction a sale or not, I’m not sure, but it’s certainly an interesting one for Everton to be looking at. I like the fact that they’re still trying to look at young players they can help develop.”

Push harder

If the reported fee of £10million is all Man United value Elanga at, then it’s time for Everton to push harder and pull out all the stops to get a deal done – it could be worth even offering slightly higher to tempt them into a sale.

The winger has shown real promise since breaking into the first team at Old Trafford two years ago and could prove to be a real hit at Goodison Park.

He has stalled a bit since Erik ten Hag came into the club, having only made seven starts in all competitions last season, but he still has time on his side at 21 to get back on track and continue to improve.

If it turns out he isn’t available for a permanent transfer this summer, then it would even be worth trying to sign him on loan as he adds something different to what Sean Dyche currently has to work with.

The Toffees manager is working under a tight budget, so deals such as this one are worth putting a bit of extra time and effort into to get them over the line.

In other Everton news, the club have been told to sign a ‘quality’ striker that’s available on a free this summer.
