Everton table offer for in-demand Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher

Everton have tabled an offer for in-demand Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Speaking to the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast (20 July), Jones said the Toffees and Newcastle United have put forward offers, while West Ham are also interested in the 23-year-old.

He added that the England international would like to stay at Stamford Bridge but is ready to consider his options if told he has to leave.

“Conor Gallagher has been linked to West Ham. He is a name that has been thrown in there, my information on Gallagher is that he doesn’t want to leave Chelsea at all, but if he has to leave he will consider it,” Jones said on the podcast in quotes reported by Football 365.

“Everton and Newcastle both have tabled offers, he is very aware of what he would get if he went to either of those clubs.”

Surely too expensive

Two things are true at once here.

Firstly, Conor Gallagher would be an excellent signing for Everton, he really would.

But, alas, sadly he is surely far too expensive for the Toffees given they are once again working on a shoestring budget this transfer window.

To land Gallagher would take a pretty sizeable fee given his age and the fact there is always a premium on England internationals. It is the sort of money Everton simply do not have to spend this summer.

Moreover, if it is true that West Ham and Newcastle United are among the other clubs interested in securing his signature, then surely the lure of European football is sure to sway Gallagher?

Everton were reportedly close to signing him back in January but already the landscape is significantly different and it is hard to imagine a scenario whereby Everton can pull this one off. The Toffees would be better served looking elsewhere.

In other Everton news, Arnaut Danjuma was reportedly on Merseyside to undergo his medical on Thursday.
