Everton handed financial windfall amid £15m Premier League development
Everton have been handed a financial windfall as they will receive £14.9million in merit payments from the Premier League, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The newspaper reported on its website on Saturday (22 July) that the Toffees stand to gain that fee due to their 17th place finish in the table last season.
The figure represents a £4.6million rise from the £10.3million total the club received for their 16th place in the 2021/22 campaign.

“Everton will earn around £4.6m more in merit payments from the Premier League despite finishing a position lower last season,” according to the Liverpool Echo.
“At the end of each season the Premier League publishes the value of central payments made to clubs, detailing the breakdown of where the broadcast money has been spent.
“Those payments come in the form of an equal share of both domestic and international rights, merit payments from both markets based on where a team has finished in the league, facilities fees related to how many games teams featured in a live broadcast with an official broadcast partner domestically, and an equal distribution of commercial revenues.”

Fantastic incentive
It is not only Everton fans who are aware of the club’s financial struggles, with the money issues at the Goodison Park club there for all to see.
Things would, of course, have been made much, much worse had the Toffees been relegated from the Premier League last season, a fate they only just managed to avoid on the final day of the campaign.
That was an extremely nervous affair for everyone associated with the club as Sean Dyche’s men defeated Bournemouth 1-0 at Goodison Park thanks to Abdoulaye Doucoure’s goal.
The £14.9million financial boost proves just how valuable it is to stay in the top flight, with the development hopefully serving as an incentive for the players to get out onto the pitch and win more games next season.
That is much easier said than done, with the Toffees set for a very tough campaign, particularly due to their financial struggles, which mean a lack of new players arriving at the club this summer.
