Everton transfer news as Tom Cannon spotted in Preston North End stadium
Everton attacker Tom Cannon continues being linked with a move to Preston North End after his recent activity, claims Joe Thomas.
The Liverpool Echo journalist reported that the 20-year-old was spotted at Preston’s stadium despite the Toffees being in action v Wigan.
He picked up a knock which is why he was not available for the clash at the DW Stadium and was spending his time in Lancashire, at a club where he’s enjoyed a spell on loan.
Via Twitter, Thomas wrote, “Tom Cannon, in attendance at Preston today, is said to have been ruled out of Everton’s games today after picking up a knock.
“Preston, where he enjoyed a successful spell on loan last season, remain keen to see whether he will be available this campaign.”
Keep him
With Ellis Simms leaving, the Toffees are thinner in the striking department and while there is an interest to buy a first-team forward, it does make sense to keep Cannon.
The 20-year-old can learn from the senior players and soon be in contention to make the matchday squad on a regular basis.
Rather than having someone like Neal Maupay as the third choice – someone who’s regressed since joining Everton – having a promising youngster is the better option.

It remains to be seen what Sean Dyche decides to do with him as he’s currently injured so the priority will be for him to regain his fitness.
Pre season is the perfect chance for players to show what they’re about and it also will be interesting to see what Cannon wants to do.
He will be playing regularly for Preston while at Everton, most of his game time will be in under-21s games.
In other Everton news, an exit-linked Toffees player has recently been spotted in talks with a senior Goodison Park figure ahead of the new season.
