Everton transfer news as double attacker move may see Tom Cannon exit

Young Everton forward Tom Cannon will be allowed to leave Goodison Park on loan amid plenty of interest once the Toffees complete deals to sign two attackers, according to Alan Nixon.

Cannon has had interest from Preston North End throughout the transfer window, having spent last season on loan at Deepdale with Stoke City and Birmingham City now entering the chase for his signature.

Sean Dyche has been aiming to add to his strike force in recent weeks, with attempts to sign Boulaye Dia and El Bilal Toure and if either addition is completed Cannon may depart Goodison.

Discussing the new interest, the newspaper journalist wrote: “Cannon can leave for a season once Sean Dyche completes a couple more arrivals in the forward line and the Toffees think Cannon will improve with more game time as he proved with Preston last season.

“Blues have made contact with Dyche to make their pitch and could even offer a loan to buy arrangement. Stoke entered the hunt and could be in the market for two new forwards. They also have the cash to make a permanent switch down the line.

“Preston want Cannon back and would also like him full-time at some point. Sunderland have been lining up a cash offer but that may depend on a sale of Ross Stewart whose fitness is holding up the master plan.”

Hope for a loan

In 20 matches for Preston last season, Everton striker, Cannon managed to score eight goals and assist one, an impressive return for a 20-year-old forward in his first-ever professional season.

This is an impressive goal-scoring record that the Ireland youth international has had throughout his youth career, in the U18 Premier League he managed to find the net 27 times and assist his teammates on nine occasions in 37 appearances.

Everton

While good form on loan doesn’t necessarily carry on into first-team football, especially in the Premier League, it would feel slightly naive to let Cannon depart Goodison permanently, especially as they face their own struggle for goals, even if they do need to raise funds quickly to combat FFP restrictions.

However, if two attackers are close to being secured, on top of the addition of Arnaut Danjuma, a temporary move back to the Championship will allow him to continue his impressive development.

You would imagine that if those in charge on Merseyside were happy with the striker’s involvement and performances at Deepdale last season, a return there this season would make the most sense for all parties.
