Everton locked in talks with Besiktas over Demarai Gray transfer ‘for some time’

Everton have been locked in talks with Turkish giants Besiktas over a transfer for Demarai Gray “for some time”, according to Gokmen Ozcan.

Writing on his personal Twitter account (28 July), the journalist from news outlet Fanatik revealed that the Superlig club are in fact interested in the Jamaica international after initial reports on Friday morning (28 July).

But he went one step further by revealing the clubs have been in talks for a while about a transfer, with Gray reportedly open to leaving for more regular first-team football.

“Beşiktaş want Everton’s Jamaican attacker Demarai Gray. Negotiations have been going on for some time.,” he wrote.

On his way?

Everton need to sign attackers to add to our current options, so being in talks about letting one of our better forwards leave the club this summer seems bizarre.

Last season Gray performed admirably despite being out of position for the vast majority of the campaign, and was a big reason why we were able to stay up with his performances as a number nine.

But Sean Dyche clearly preferred to use Dwight McNeil and Alex Iwobi out wide, and with the arrival of Arnaut Danjuma on loan it seems as though Gray has fallen further down the pecking order now.

Both parties are reportedly open to an exit, but until Everton are able to bring in more options in the attacking area of the pitch this is something that really shouldn’t even be considered.

We need money, yes, but we should avoid selling our better performers to get it otherwise we’re standing still at best.
