Dominic Calvert-Lewin injury update emerges as Dyche provides new info

Everton boss Sean Dyche has provided some new information surrounding the fitness of Dominic Calvert-Lewin following his absence from the squad against Stoke City, as reported via the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper shared quotes via its website on 30 July, revealing that Calvert-Lewin’s recovery is being taken one day at a time by Everton’s coaching staff, as they don’t want to risk aggravating his injury ahead of the new season.

It is shared that Dyche is keen on not overloading the striker, as he needs him to play a big part in the club’s survival hopes for the coming season, despite rumours linking them with new strikers this summer.

Following their pre-season fixture with Stoke City, Dyche revealed to the Liverpool Echo: “He’s going well. He trained with us last week and is still crossing over between training and getting the extra fitness work he needs in. From what I’m told of his session [on Saturday], it went well. And that was quite a heavy session.

“We’re happy with that and he seems to be in a good place, so we’re hopeful we can carry on building from that.”

When asked whether fans can expect to see the striker return to the squad for Everton’s final pre-season fixture against Sporting CP at the weekend, Dyche shared: “We’ll wait and see. We’re taking it a day at a time because, as everyone knows, he’s had a tough period of it. So it’s making sure we’re not overloading him and he’s well in himself.”

Grateful to have him back

Everton bosses will be grateful to see Calvert-Lewin return to the first team setup, with everything crossed – fingers, toes, the lot – that the worst of his fitness issues are now behind him and he can play a bigger part in the coming season than he has in the last couple.

The striker’s interview earlier this pre-season, where he revealed how hard he had been working throughout the summer with hardly any time off, was a brilliant insight into the mindset of a man determined to come back and prove himself.

Everton’s hunt for a new striker has not gone well so far this summer, seeing targets such as Viktor Gyokeres sign for Sporting CP, Illiman N’Diaye sign for Marseille, and El Bilal Toure sign for Atalanta despite reported interest from the Merseyside club.

Calvert-Lewin’s return will hopefully suppress the urgent need for a forward, with Neal Maupay simply not good enough to be the first-choice upfront for a Premier League club, due to his wastefulness and profligacy in front of goal.
