Everton fee update emerges on Youssef Chermiti transfer amid lack of agreement on bonus clause
Everton are offering to pay Sporting up to €20million [£17.1m] in total for striker Youssef Chermiti but there is a gap between what both sides want for the sell-on fee, Chris Beesley reports.
Fabrizio Romano reported on Monday afternoon (31 July) that the Toffees have reached an agreement in principle with the Portuguese side for the 19-year-old striker.
But the details of the deal have yet to be ironed out and and there is still no full agreement on future clauses, but a €15m [£12.8m] up-front fee is on the cards.
Liverpool Echo journalist Beesley reported via Twitter on Monday after the Romano news: “I understand that Everton’s proposed fee for Youssef Chermiti is €15million rising to €20milllion depending on goals scored.
“Sporting CP want 20% of a future fee but the Blues have offered 10%.”

A verbal agreement is a lot further than Everton have got with a lot of transfer pursuits in the past year so it is a positive development that a striker could finally be on the way in.
However, a teenager with just one senior season under his belt is unlikely to be the ready-made answer to all of the club’s attacking woes instantly.
There were question marks over El Bilal Touré’s ability to adapt to the Premier League as the 21-year-old was still developing, so that is all the more true here.

Sean Dyche will likely hope that he can add another option before the close of the window who is more experienced, but clearly the club feel that Chermiti’s potential is worth making a splash now.
That the two clubs have got as far down the line as to be negotiating on the percentage of a sell-on clause is a sign that this deal should be completed, but nothing can be completely certain until it is signed.
Something is better than nothing, but Neal Maupay’s move a year ago showed that spending on the wrong target doesn’t do much good, so quite what role Dyche has in mind for Chermiti if it gets over the line will be instructive.
