Update emerges on Leeds United attacker Wilfried Gnonto amid Everton links

Leeds United attacker and reported Everton target Wilfried Gnonto will get restless if asked to play in the Championship, claims Dean Jones.

The former Eurosport journalist told Give Me Sport [30 July] that he wants to leave Elland Road due to the club’s relegation.

The report also cites MailOnline claiming that the Toffees are keen on bringing in a goal-scoring attacker capable of playing out wide and have already seen a bid rejected.

Jones said, “At the moment, it’s not impossible they both stay, but we will have to see if that remains the case as we get towards the start of the season and other clubs realise these two are still up for grabs.

“I hear that Gnonto wants to leave, I think he’ll get a bit restless if he’s playing in the Championship when it kicks off. So, let’s see how it all develops.”

Unsettled

It’s evident that Gnonto himself believes that he deserves to be playing at a level higher than the Championship next season.

He was underutilised by Leeds in the Premier League and only towards the second half of the campaign, was he given more minutes in the team.

In the relatively short time at Elland Road, he’s proven why he could be a quality addition to most sides in the English top flight.

With the Toffees no closer to signing a new striker, a case could be made for Gnonto leading the line next season.

Alternatively, the Italian could play off the left and Arnaut Danjuma, who played as a number nine pre season, becomes their main goal-scoring threat.

Regardless, Everton cannot give up on their interest to sign Gnonto and another bid for the Italian must be on the cards soon.

In exclusive Everton news, the Toffees now have to pay £21.4m to land a Brazilian striker to lead their line for next season.
