Championship clubs ‘scrambling’ for kick-off may receive Tom Cannon boost amid Everton transfer news
Everton moving for Youssef Chermiti could have a knock-on effect on where Tom Cannon plays his football next season, according to Liverpool Echo reporter Joe Thomas.
Fabrizio Romano first reported on Monday that the Toffees have reached an agreement in principle with Sporting CP for Chermiti before Echo writer Chris Beesley said Everton are offering to pay £17.1million in total for the striker.
Cannon has been on the radar of several Championship clubs over a potential loan deal, with Thomas noting Preston, Sunderland and Stoke as potential destinations, and the 20-year-old may now be available if the Chermiti deal gets done.
Posting on Twitter, Thomas wrote: “Going to be interesting to see how any deal for Chermiti impacts Tom Cannon.
“Championship clubs scrambling to be ready for season kick-off this weekend. Preston and Sunderland both have long term interest, Alex Neil didn’t shoot down reports of Stoke tracking him either.”
Cannon needs to play
It has been no secret that Everton have been chasing much-needed attacking reinforcements this window but they appeared to keep hitting dead ends.
Moves for El Bilal Toure and Moussa Dembele failed to come to fruition, though they did manage to bring in Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal.
Finally it looks as though Sean Dyche is getting another striker in the door in Chermiti, though, and that could have ramifications for Cannon.

The 20-year-old is attracting plenty of attention from the second and it is little wonder why considering he scored eight goals in 20 Championship appearances during a loan spell for Preston last season.
Given Everton’s lack of strikers, Cannon might have thought he would have a chance of making a first-team breakthrough at Goodison Park this season but that proposition looks a little unlikely.
Dyche may still want another forward in before sanctioning a temporary exit for Cannon, but the 20-year-old really just needs to play regularly this term.
In other Everton news, Jarrad Branthwaite is a “surprise” name for a Manchester United transfer.
