Everton hold talks with Southampton over signing Kamaldeen Sulemana as Wilfried Gnonto alternative

Everton have held talks with Southampton over the availability of winger Kamaldeen Sulemana, according to the Liverpool ECHO.

Writing on their official website (2 August), the newspaper report that the club have remained interested in the Ghanaian winger despite him opting for a move to the Saints over Goodison Park in January.

Following Southampton’s relegation to the Championship the Toffees have now approached them about re-visiting a deal for the 21-year-old, with Sky Sports (1 August) reporting that they are looking at a loan deal.

“Everton have also held talks with Southampton over the availability of Kamaldeen Sulemana,” they wrote.

“The ECHO understands that the Blues have identified the winger as an alternative to Wilfried Gnonto.”

Smart

Sulemana was a hot target in the January window and Everton even had a £22m bid accepted, before he instead chose to move to St Mary’s.

But while he struggled in their team, there were brief glimpses of his quality and speed and it was obvious why he had previously been described as “Exceptional” by current Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag.

His speed is incredible and adding him to our current attacking options would be fantastic business, even if only on a temporary basis for now.

Wilfried Gnonto’s transfer to the club has clearly hit the rocks at this point and rightly, the club have now moved on to looking at alternative options rather than standing still.

The club don’t have long to bolster the squad and with the new season upon us, the sooner a deal can be done the better. Sulemana would be great and just like Arnaut Danjuma, this could be fate.

In other Everton news, a Premier League striker is wanted as a direct replacement for this outgoing star.
