Youssef Chermiti demands greater effort from Everton as club aim to seal deal for teenage forward

Youssef Chermiti is demanding Everton show a “greater effort” to sign him from Sporting Lisbon after turning down an initial contract offer, according to O Jogo.

The Portuguese newspaper reported on 3 August that the 19-year-old is continuing discussions with the Toffees over his proposed £13million move to Goodison Park.

But it said the Portuguese striker is wanting the Blues to make a “greater effort” to sign him by offering higher wages as he looks to put pen to paper on a contract when he arrives on Merseyside by the end of the week.

Easy fix

It should be quite an easy fix to sort out the remaining details of the deal to ensure Everton have a new forward in their squad before too long.

Surely he isn’t asking for ridiculous wages given that he is only 19 and should be seeing this move as a great opportunity to show what he can do in the Premier League.

The Toffees have shown that they believe in his quality and potential down the line after agreeing terms with Sporting over a £13million deal despite the reported ongoing financial constraints at the club.

The 6’4″ teenager broke into Primeira Liga side’s team last season and scored three goals and laid on two assists in 22 appearances, so he will be hoping to build on that tally in a Blues shirt in the upcoming campaign [Transfermarkt].

It’s unlikely Sean Dyche will initially install him as a starter, but he will be looking for him to develop and become a key player for the club in the future.

In other Everton news, the Toffees are chasing a £22million winger to replace an outgoing star this summer.
