Everton ‘remain active’ in transfer market as Sean Dyche speaks out today

Everton manager Sean Dyche has admitted that the Toffees remain active in the transfer market this summer as they look to strengthen ahead of the new Premier League season.

The Toffees have already made two signings this summer with Ashley Young and Arrant Danjuma joining the ranks at Goodison Park, but Dyche hasn’t finished adding to his squad this transfer window, with at least one forward still on the agenda.

Sporting Lisbon forward Youseff Chermiti looks to be closing in on a deal to join Everton, with a deal hopefully said to be concluded in the next couple of days [Alan Myers].

Writing in his programme notes against Sporting CP, via the Liverpool Echo live blog (13:23, 5 August), Dyche said: “Recruitment was always going to be important for us this summer and, while we very much remain active in searching for the right players to come in to improve the group, I am pleased with the two signings we have managed to secure to date.

“The bulk of the squad has banked some really valuable physical work and, particularly over the past couple of weeks, we have looked to hone in on more tactical and technical aspects of our game.”

Work to be done

Hopefully, Chermiti’s signing is edging closer and will go a long way to lifting the mood at Goodison Park ahead of the new season and could be a step in the right direction in solving the search for goals on Merseyside.

But it is little more than a start for the Toffees and it will be a relief for fans that Dyche and his support staff haven’t taken their foot off the gas as they aim to move away from the relegation battle for the first time in a couple of seasons.

A new centre-back would go a long way to helping the Toffees, with both Harry Maguire and Trevoh Chalobah linked with moves to Goodison both would be expensive deals, but could happen closer to the end of the window when a bit of desperation kicks in.

With less than a month to go until the window slams shut at the end of August, it is almost guaranteed to be a busy period on the blue side of the Mersey.
