Everton still haven’t agreed personal terms with Youssef Chermiti, won’t travel to England

Everton are still yet to agree personal terms with Sporting striker Youssef Chermiti and he won’t travel to England yet, according to A Bola.

Writing on their official website (4 August), the Portuguese newspaper report that negotiations between the Toffees and the player’s father are still ongoing and as a result the player is yet to receive the green light to travel to England for a medical.

19-year-old Chermiti is still expected to sign a five-year deal at Goodison Park eventually, but plans to unveil him ahead of the friendly between the two clubs on Saturday have failed.

“It was not yet this Friday that Youssef Chermiti received the green light from leonine officials to travel to England,” they wrote.

“According to A BOLA, the player and his father and representative, Noureddine Chermiti, continue to discuss with the English club’s managers the salary conditions of the future contract and only after the agreement is signed will the 19-year-old striker be expected to travel to undergo medical examinations, before signing a contract valid for the next five seasons.”

Dithering

This is giving eery reminders of how the Arnaut Danjuma transfer went in January, when everyone was told it was basically done and just to keep calm before it suddenly fell through.

Nobody had heard of Chermiti before Fabrizio Romano broke the news that a deal had been agreed, but it would still feel like a massive blow if this didn’t happen in the end.

The club have clearly spent a lot of time on the deal, taking time away from other potential deals that could be completed had this one just been nipped in the bud at the start.

But with the new season just a week away and the two clubs facing each other on Saturday, there is plenty of time to get the deal over the line and completed and hopefully that will be the case.

He will add raw energy and potential in the forward areas plus options for Sean Dyche, and Everton will need to get this over the line to keep fan morale high heading into the new campaign.

In other Everton news, Dyche may have made a transfer decision after an official Friday announcement.
