Youssef Chermiti is not expected to line up for Sporting CP in Saturday's (5 August) friendly against Everton with his move to Goodison Park on the verge of completion, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper reported on its online live blog for the match that the 19-year-old forward has not trained with his club over the past few days with his transfer close to getting the green light.

Portuguese paper the Record wrote on Saturday (5 August) that the Toffees are hoping to have the deal for Chermiti completed by early next week.

It would represent Everton's third foray into the transfer market this window with Ashley Young arriving on a free transfer after leaving Aston Villa, and Arnaut Danjuma joining on a season-long loan from Villarreal.

No surprise

The deal for Youssef Chermiti to join Everton looks all but done now, and it is very little surprise to learn that he will not be featuring against Everton.

Neither the player, nor the two clubs involved, will want to risk Chermiti picking up an injury and jeopardising a transfer that is on the brink of getting over the line.

The Echo did say one player who might feature against Sean Dyche's side is Viktor Gyokeres, who was linked with a move to Everton before he joined Sporting from Coventry City.

Completing a nice little transfer triangle, Ellis Simms left Goodison Park to move to Coventry, who were losing finalists in last season's Championship play-off final.

For Dyche, the addition of another forward will be most welcome given Everton struggled badly in the final third last term. With him and Danjuma in the door, all of a sudden the Toffees look a little stronger in the final third.
