Everton transfer news as Youssef Chermiti gives in to complete medical and sign contract

Youseff Chermiti has finally given in to Everton and is set to complete his medical and sign a five-year contract on Monday (7 August), according to Record.

The Portuguese newspaper reported in its print edition on Monday, (7 August, page 15) that negotiations between the Toffees and the 19-year-old forward were incredibly difficult with Chermiti even refusing Everton’s first personal terms offer.

But the Sporting Lisbon striker has now agreed terms long after the two clubs had reached a deal for the strikers services for just under £13m initially with potential add-ons taking the fee close to £17m if all clauses are met. Last season saw Chermiti break into the Sporting side scoring 3 times in 16 Liga Nos appearances.

Sean Dyche’s side look to have beaten both Wolves and Bournemouth to Chermiti’s signature, with both Premier League clubs admiring the young forward who looks likely to be plying his trade at Goodison Park until 2028.

Tough deal

It won’t fill Everton fans with much confidence that it has taken so much persuasion for Chermiti to finally pull on their colours for the upcoming season, but the most important thing is that they have finally got a new striker in their ranks.

The young Portuguese forward hasn’t exactly been prolific in his very short career so far, but that is now the realm in which the Toffees are having to operate, taking chances on younger talents and having to gamble rather than buy proven talents.

Chermiti is more than capable of exploding at Goodison Park and reaching that potential that has seen him breakthrough in his native country at only 19 years old and Everton’s acquisition of Arnaut Danjuma and retention of Dominic Calvert-Lewin will allow him to be bedded in slowly.

Everton

If Neal Maupay does depart Merseyside this summer, the Toffees could do with at least one more forward option as they attempt to increase their goal-scoring output having been the Premier League’s second-lowest scorers last season.

Hopefully, Chermiti enjoys his time at Everton more once he finds his feet and can start to provide the Toffees with those all-important goals.
