Alan Myers replies when asked if Everton deal to sign Chermiti is falling through

Alan Myers has revealed he doesn’t expect Everton to complete the signing of Youssef Chermiti from Sporting Lisbon today (8 August) despite there being no issues with the deal.

It was reported by BBC Sport on 8 August that the Portuguese forward completed the first half of his medical in England on Monday (7 August) and that he is “undergoing the second part today”.

But Sky Sports journalist Myers hinted on Twitter that the 19-year-old won’t finalise his move today, but added that he’s “not aware” that the deal has fallen through.

No calls for concern

It has taken a while for the deal to go through after an agreement was reached with Sporting Lisbon last week, with Everton expected to pay up to £15million for the forward.

But there doesn’t seem to be much call for concern as he is undergoing his medical and the BBC said it expects the deal to be completed by the end of the week.

Sean Dyche will be desperate to get it over the line as soon as possible so that he can have Chermiti available as a potential option for the opening game of the season at home to Fulham on 12 August.

There had been an issue over wages towards the back end of last week, but that appears to have been resolved and it’s just the final stages of the medical that are standing in the way of finalising the deal.

There will be some anxiety amongst the fans over whether it is going to be completed until the club officially announces the signing, but it does seem likely to just be a formality now.
