BBC Sport reveal Everton and MSP investment update as wait goes on

BBC Sport has revealed there are “no obstacles” for investment in Everton from MSP Sports Capital.

The Toffees entered into an exclusivity agreement with the New York-based company on May 22 to acquire more funding for the club’s new stadium on Bramley Moore Dock.

The Blues are currently operating under financial constraints as they look to complete the £760million facility, with the BBC reporting on 8 August that the “process remains ongoing” over MSP taking a stake in the club to help with the costs.

Takes time

It’s clearly going to take some time for any potential deal for MSP to acquire a stake in the Toffees to go through due to the high costs involved.

Owner Farhad Moshiri has been on the lookout for some extra funding for a while after it was announced the new stadium would now cost £760million having previously being estimated at about £500million.

The club has also been posting huge losses for a number of years, with the BBC reporting on 22 May that it has lost £430million over the past five years.

All those associated with Everton will now be keen to see MSP’s potential deal go through as soon as possible to provide an injection of cash and ensure the club’s future isn’t at any risk.

It’s also extremely important that money isn’t taken out of the playing budget, as Sean Dyche desperately needs all the funds he can get to strengthen his squad for the upcoming campaign.
