Rio Ferdinand predicts Everton to be relegated from Premier League
Rio Ferdinand has predicted Everton to be relegated from the Premier League this season when speaking to TNT Sports.
The Toffees avoided the drop to the Championship on the final day of the 2022/23 season, as Abdoulaye Doucoure’s goal earned a 1-0 win and three vital points to send Leicester and Leeds down instead.
But Ferdinand believes they won’t be able to repeat that this season despite Sean Dyche having his first full campaign in charge, and has backed them for relegation alongside newly-promoted Luton Town and Sheffield United.
Ouch
Obviously it’s never nice to see your team backed to be relegated and have a bad campaign, but you can hardly blame Rio in this instance.
Last season people expected Everton to improve under Frank Lampard and despite a good start we just went backwards, even with a host of new signings that made the team look stronger.
Now Sean Dyche is in charge but the squad has barely been strengthened ahead of the new season, if at all considering the exits, and we haven’t addressed our biggest issue.

Considering we only just avoided the drop, it’s not crazy to predict us to go down as it stands. The hope however is that Dyche gets a bit more backing between now and the window closing and can work his magic to stabilise us.
If that happens then Everton fans will no doubt be confident that we can avoid another battle with the drop and instead move up the table with the quality that we already have to make Ferdinand’s prediction look as stupid as possible come May.
