Journalist tips James Garner to break through at Everton after impressing coaching staff

James Garner has impressed members of the Everton coaching staff and could be rewarded with plenty of time on the pitch this season, according to journalist Paul Brown.

Midfielder Garner made the switch from Manchester United to Everton last summer but struggled to make an impact for the Toffees during his debut season with injuries causing problems for the 22-year-old.

As a result, he only managed to get on the pitch for 919 minutes throughout the course of the season and will be hoping to make a bigger contribution at Goodison Park during the upcoming campaign.

According to Brown, he is well on the path to doing exactly that as the journalist has heard “good things” about him from the coaching staff.

“I do think he will get a lot of minutes because I think Amadou Onana’s form dips in and out quite a lot. I don’t think you can expect Idrissa Gueye to play every game of the season. Abdoulaye Doucoure got injured last year too,” Brown told GIVEMESPORT (9 August).

So, I think there will be chances for Garner and when he does get one in midfield, he’s just really got to take it and prove that he can stick in that position because that’s where I see him playing for Everton in the long-term.

“He’s got the talent, he’s got the commitment, he’s got the mentality. I hear good things about him from the coaching staff there, so I think he’s got a real chance this season and I would like to see him be the one that breaks through.”

Fresh face

Following a difficult first year on Merseyside for Garner, his potential emergence this season could very much feel like a brand-new signing for Sean Dyche considering his limited availability for the manager so far.

Dyche will feel like he has a new player at his disposal, providing the youngster can stay fit, and will be excited to see what he can bring to the side with the player surely having a point to prove after his troubles during the previous campaign.

Garner’s most impressive attribute is his versatility. While he is comfortable in midfield, he can also feature out wide and at full-back and his ability to play in different positions will be key for the club as they look to avoid another relegation dogfight.

The Manchester United youth product is certainly one to keep an eye on going into the new Premier League season and could help the Toffees to improve.

In other Everton news, the club have tabled an offer for a striker from PSG.
