Sean Dyche delivers ‘appropriate’ Everton transfer update amid squad ‘imbalance’

There is not an exact number of new players that Everton manager Sean Dyche plans to bring to the club this summer.

The Merseyside outfit get their new season underway on Saturday (12 August) when they welcome Fulham to Goodison Park.

And Toffees manager Dyche has spoken about the need to balance his squad as the new Premier League campaign approaches.

“There are challenges, that’s been apparent,” Dyche told reporters in his pre-match press conference, as per the official Everton YouTube channel. “We’ve been linked with many, that’s always the case.

“There isn’t really an exact number but I think I’ve spoken before that there was a big imbalance in the squad, too many players in certain positions, so we’re having to rebalance, and we’ve somewhat done that.

“We need to find that balance, so the players that can fill in those slots, but obviously of a quality that we think is appropriate.”

New faces needed

Everton have strengthened this summer through the signatures of the versatile Ashley Young and attacker Arnaut Danjuma.

The former has arrived on a free transfer after leaving Aston Villa, with the latter joining on a season-long loan from Villarreal.

And they look set to be joined by Sporting Lisbon striker Youssef Chermiti, with Dyche confirming in the press conference that the young forward is close to becoming a new Everton player.

But it perhaps won’t be enough for the Toffees to have a successful season, meaning the manager is more than likely going to delve into the transfer market for further additions.

The Merseyside club could, of course, still lose one or two key men before the transfer window closes, which would further increase the need to bring new faces to Goodison Park.

Every other club in the Premier League is strengthening, and the Toffees cannot afford to fall behind in this regard.
