Everton deal for Trevoh Chalobah now on the cards as Chelsea transfer news drops

Everton may be in a better position to make their move for Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah, as Chelsea have dropped his price to £21.5million in negotiations with Inter Milan, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Di Marzio shared via his website on 11 August that Inter Milan had reopened negotiations with Chelsea over a move for the defender, while Everton were linked with a move on 5 August by TEAMtalk.

His price at that time was thought to be around £45million, as reported by Jacob Steinberg in The Guardian [31 July], which would have been out of Everton’s range, but that price has now dropped by more than half, potentially opening the door for a move to Merseyside.

A better deal unlikely to present itself

Centre-back has not been one of Everton’s priority positions this summer, as it is almost the only position in which the Toffees are well-stocked. Focus has been on strikers and wingers, where Everton are lacking quality and depth, but when a deal like this becomes available, it’s hard to ignore.

Chalobah’s age also presents a different option for Dyche. His starting duo for the opening day clash against Fulham of James Tarkowski and Michael Keane are both 30 years old, while Chalobah is just 24 and could be a long-term option.

Along with Everton academy graduate Jarrad Branthwaite, who is expected to play a big part in the squad this season, Chalobah could be a part of the side at Goodison Park (or the Bramley-Moore Dock stadium as it will be) for years to come.

Should the Toffees decide to pursue this deal, they will be adding a homegrown player who already has Premier League experience, which suits Sean Dyche’s style, so it could certainly be one to watch as the window draws to a close.
