Neal Maupay slammed as ‘nowhere near good enough’ in Everton ‘shambles’ verdict

Everton striker Neal Maupay is “nowhere near good enough” to play for the club, according to talkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara.

Maupay started and played 72 minutes as the Toffees lost 1-0 to Fulham in their Premier League opener on Saturday (12 August).

The 26-year-old, who joined Everton from Brighton last summer, has scored just one goal from his 30 Toffees appearances.

“Maupay is nowhere near good enough to play for Everton Football Club,” O’Hara said live on talkSPORT.

“The problem that Sean Dyche has is that there isn’t anyone else, it’s a shambles.”

Miserable start

Everton fans were desperate for a bright start to the new Premier League season, having watched on in fear last time out as their club just about managed to avoid relegation to the Championship.

But Dyche’s side started in very poor fashion with their 1-0 home loss to the Cottagers, with the hosts massively struggling in front of goal.

As per Sky Sports (13 August) the home side had 19 shots throughout the 90 minutes, proving that the creativity is there but the finishing simply isn’t.

It’s definitely unfair to place all the blame on Maupay, who is undoubtedly just in the starting line-up due to the absence of the injured Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

It was, however, a fantastic opportunity for the former Brighton man to really get his Toffees career going and get fans on his side.
Given his issues and the recent arrival of fellow striker Youssef Chermiti, Maupay may now find himself out of the starting XI for the upcoming matches.

In other Everton news, one pundit has slammed the Toffees live on talkSPORT as a “firefighting” transfers verdict is shared.
