Sean Dyche will have been frustrated with the performance of Neal Maupay as Everton suffered a 1-0 defeat against Fulham on Saturday (12 August).

Failure to sign a new striker over the summer meant that they had to start the former Brighton flop due to a lack of options.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin, otherwise the first choice was injured and thus not available for selection for the Toffees.

Youssef Chermiti, while officially joining Everton, was not registered in time for this one and even if he was, he did not spend enough time training with the first team to start.

However, for the game against Aston Villa on 20 August, the Portuguese along with Calvert-Lewin are expected to be available and either are better than Maupay.

The 26-year-old French striker was arguably the worst player on the pitch against Fulham as he racked up an xG of 1.37 without scoring, per Sofascore.

He lost all four of his ground duels and his only aerial duel so he failed to impose himself as a physical presence either, something which Dyche demands from his strikers.

He missed two big chances and completed just eight passes all game and was rightfully withdrawn in the second half by Dyche.

If Everton are to comfortably avoid relegation this season, Maupay must be nowhere near this playing eleven.
