Everton dealt transfer blow after Trevoh Chalobah suffers injury

Everton have suffered a blow in their chase for Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah, after he picked up a hamstring injury in training, according to The Athletic.

The reputable source shared on 17 August that both Chalobah and Reece James suffered hamstring injuries this week after the former aggravated a minor issue which will now keep him out of action for about a month.

Everton had been linked with a move for Chalobah following Chelsea’s acquisition of Axel Disasi as they look to improve their options [TEAMtalk, 5 August], although The Athletic report states it is unknown whether the injury will impact a potential move.

Chalobah has most recently been linked with a move to Italy, with Inter Milan and Lazio showing interest, and the aforementioned TEAMtalk article stated the defender may prefer a move abroad if he is to leave Chelsea, so rumours of Everton’s interest have cooled.

Sean Dyche has been keen to improve all aspects of his side this summer in an attempt to strengthen their fight against falling into another relegation battle after the disappointment of last season where they were only able to stay up on the final day.

Chalobah’s experience playing regularly for Chelsea in the last year has earned him high praise and attention from across the continent, and the fact he is homegrown will always provide a benefit if Everton were to step up their interest in him.

Dyche recently spoke about Jarrad Branthwaite’s involvement in his plans, as he admitted he has been very impressed with the young defender in training, although so far he has preferred a duo of James Tarkowski and Michael Keane at the heart of his defence.

In other Everton news, the deadline for a striker transfer has been extended in a recent twist.
