Alex Crook shares Everton striker verdict as £12m Che Adams transfer news emerges
Everton need a new number nine as they cannot rely on current striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin staying fit, according to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook.
The verdict comes following the club’s £12million bid for Southampton and Scotland striker Che Adams [The Athletic, 18 August].
The 27-year-old, who scored 10 goals in all competitions last season, already has two goals from three matches for the Saints this season.

“Che Adams, we understand that a bid is in from Everton for around £12million,” Crook said live on talkSPORT. “He’s in the last year of his contract, so a decision for Southampton to make. He’s actually started the season quite well, scoring a couple of goals in the Championship.
“But I think Everton need to get in a new number nine don’t they, because they just can’t rely on Dominic Calvert-Lewin to stay fit.”

Another striker needed?
Everton were really poor in front of goal last season, with only Wolves finding the back of the net fewer times than the Toffees last time out.
And unfortunately for Everton fans, their club have got their new Premier League campaign off to a similar start, with the Merseyside outfit creating several chances but failing to score in their opener against Fulham.
One common factor has been the absence of star striker Calvert-Lewin, who has struggled to stay injury-free in recent years.
His absence is a massive blow for Everton, with the Merseyside outfit seemingly failing to cope without their main man in the final third.
But manager Sean Dyche is doing his utmost to address that problem this summer, with striker Youssef Chermiti signed from Sporting Lisbon.
Fellow forward Arnaut Danjuma has also been brought in on a season-long loan from Villarreal, with the attacker able to play out wide or centrally.
In other Everton news, one Premier League club plans to use a £46million windfall to sign a Toffees player this summer.
