Everton confident of Che Adams signing after ‘reasonable’ bid submitted for Southampton striker

Everton are confident they can sign Southampton striker Che Adams as they consider their £12million bid to be “reasonable”, according to The Athletic.

The outlet published on their live transfer feed (18 August, 10:21 am) that the Toffees feel the deal is likely as Adams has just 12 months remaining on his Southampton contract, while the Saints are eager to avoid losing players for free and are willing to sell.

Adams cost the south coast club £15million from Birmingham City in 2019 but could return to the Premier League with Everton following Southampton’s relegation last season.

Looking likely

If Southampton can recoup most of the £15million they spent on the Scotsman this window, they will consider this a massive success.

Adams could also be on significant wages for a Championship club, so financially this sale will only benefit Southampton. The Scotland international has had a steady spell at St Mary’s and could prove a force for Sean Dyche at Everton.

The 27-year-old has caught the attention of many Premier League sides, with The Athletic claiming that both Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth have shown interest while the Daily Mail suggested (17 August) that Crystal Palace could miss out too.

With 33 goals across 148 total appearances for the Saints, he is not exactly guaranteed goals for the Toffees, but if he can get close to his Premier League-high of nine goals, he could help Everton’s blunt attack.

Everton need Premier League-proven quality, and Adams is it. While Youssef Chermiti looks an exciting prospect, he can’t be relied on this season for consistent goals.

But if Adams can help the Toffees win even two or three extra games this season, the extra points could prove invaluable if they are battling relegation again.

In other Everton news, the Toffees are reportedly keeping their options open during tough negotiations for a Championship forward.
