Dominic Calvert-Lewin provides injury update from hospital after frustrating Everton return

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has provided an injury update after he was forced off the pitch against Aston Villa in his first start for the Toffees this season, promising he’ll “be back shortly.”

The England international was substituted in the 38th minute of the Toffees’ 4-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday (20 August) having collided with Emi Martinez and appeared to have injured his cheekbone with a bruise quickly appearing under his eye.

Calvert-Lewin wasn’t able to continue and was taken to hospital after the game for further medical checks, but despite his return to the starting line-up being curtailed quickly, he has promised the Everton fans that he’ll be back soon.

Sharing the update via his Instagram story, the 26-year-old said: “Didn’t expect to end up here today. I’m sorry it wasn’t the return everyone was hoping for and no one is more frustrated than me.

“It’s a sore one but I’ll be back shortly.”

A stroke of luck

With his recent injury woes, you wouldn’t be going to Calvert-Lewin to find the lottery numbers at the moment, the striker just isn’t able to stay fit and you can only imagine how frustrating it must be for him as a professional as it is irritating enough for the Toffees fanbase.

Sean Dyche’s side looked incredibly poor in the defeat to Villa on Sunday and whether or not Calvert-Lewin staying on the pitch would’ve helped is doubtful as a majority of the issues were because of poor defensive work.

But for Everton to carry an attacking threat at the moment, they need their striker fit as without him they don’t ever look like troubling the opposition keeper, especially with their options in the striking department fairly limited.

Dyche opted to bring young forward Lewis Dobbin off the bench before Neal Maupay, an indicator of where the Frenchman currently lies in the pecking order at Goodison Park. Before the window shuts Everton need another forward option.

Maybe Che Adams will be the man to help the Toffees going forward, but he hasn’t ever been particularly prolific in the Premier League himself.
