Sky Sports commentator slams Nathan Patterson, Everton defender ‘has to do better’

Sky Sports commentator Andy Hinchcliffe slammed Everton defender Nathan Patterson in the club’s loss against Aston Villa.

Sean Dyche’s men lost 4-0 in their Premier League clash against Unai Emery’s men at Villa Park on Sunday (20 August).

The defeat means the Toffees have lost their first two matches of the new season, having lost 1-0 at home to Fulham in their opening game.

Trying to drag Everton back into the match against Aston Villa, Patterson burst forward down the right in the first minute of first-half stoppage time, but his cross overhit cross evaded everyone.

Commenting on the cross, Hinchcliffe said live on Sky Sports Main Event (20 August, 1.46pm). “He is under no pressure there, he has to do better.”

Disastrous display

Everton really do look to be struggling under Dyche, with the Toffees failing to get their new campaign off and running thus far.

Patterson can hardly be to blame for the club’s struggles against Villa, with not many Everton players really able to hold their heads high after the loss at Villa Park.

The fixtures come thick and fast for the Merseyside club, with Wolves and Doncaster still to come before the month of August is brought to a close.

Fortunately, Dyche still has time in the summer transfer window to bring in some much-needed additions to his squad.

That has become even more important for the Toffees following the clash against Aston Villa, where both Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Alex Iwobi were taking off the pitch early with injuries.

Ashley Young, Arnaut Danjuma, Jack Harrison and Youssef Chermiti have all arrived at Goodison Park so far this summer, but it seems that further signings are needed if the club are planning to avoid a third successive Premier League relegation battle.

In other Everton news, Michael Keane has sent a two-word message as a player announces his retirement from football.
