Alan Pardew shares ‘very difficult’ Everton transfer verdict live on talkSPORT

Former Premier League manager Alan Pardew believes Everton are in for a “very difficult” season if they do not get their next signings spot on.

Pardew is not sure that Southampton striker Che Adams – who is close to joining the Toffees [The Telegraph, 20 August] – is the right fit for the club.

Everton have lost their first two matches of the new Premier League season; 1-0 at home to Fulham and 4-0 away to Aston Villa.

“I saw Sean Dyche after the season and he was so relieved that they got over the line, and he felt that they were desperately short, I know that,” Pardew said live on talkSPORT.

“But there’s no one who has really come in there. You can’t take a team where it can’t go if you haven’t got the personnel.

“I don’t know if Che Adams is the right one, but they cannot afford to make a mistake on the next one or two signings they bring in, otherwise their season is going to be very, very difficult.”

Miserable start

There may have been some hope among Everton supporters that their club could put things right in these early stages of the new season following their struggles last time out.

The Merseyside outfit managed to stay in the Premier League for another campaign thanks to their win against Bournemouth on the last day of last season.

Their relegation scrap last time out followed another relegation battle the season before that, with the Toffees already on their way to a third successive relegation fight.

It is, of course, too early to tell exactly which three clubs will go down, but the fact that Everton sit rock bottom of the table after two games does not bode well.

They have brought in the likes of Ashley Young, Arnaut Danjuma and Youssef Chermiti so far this summer, but it remains to be seen how much of an impact they can have under Sean Dyche.
