Sky Sports pundit shares vital Everton transfer verdict before deadline

Kevin Campbell believes that it is “vital” Everton make at least a couple of signings before the transfer window closes, as they aim to avoid another relegation fight.

The Toffees have started the campaign with two defeats at the hands of Fulham and Aston Villa and questions are already being asked about whether Sean Dyche’s side are strong enough to remain the Premier League.

Everton have already moved to strengthen their forward line with the signings of Youssef Chermiti, Jack Harrison and Arnaut Danjuma, but Campbell believes that the Toffees will need more incomings to avoid the drop this season, with Leeds’ Wilfried Gnonto one target.

Everton

Speaking on Sky Sports News on Tuesday (22 August), the former Evertonian discussed the remainder of the window saying: “I think it’s vital (to bring in more players). There are a few players who Everton are trying to acquire, one, particularly from Leeds. They’re desperate to get him over the line, they’re desperate to make that happen.

“I think Everton really have to knuckle down and get some quality signings over the line so that they can push on and it’s that important even after two games.”

Knuckle down

The hope this season at Goodison Park was that the Toffees would have their house in order before the season even got underway, but if it was ever ready, after two games it has been smashed to the floor leaving fans and pundits worried.

Dyche’s side are already on the back foot having given the teams around them a two-match head start, but that leaves 36 games left to play and plenty of time for Everton to get their act together to avoid yet another relegation battle.

Gnonto is a well-documented target and despite Leeds’ reluctance to sell, the consensus is that he would be allowed to depart Elland Road should the Whites’ valuation of the Italian be met, but it is a deal that could have been completed weeks ago if Everton can match the fee required.

Finances are tight on the blue half of Merseyside, but Everton are going to have to scrape together some cash to reinforce their squad before the 1 September transfer deadline as it is already looking like an uphill battle as explained by Campbell.
