Pundit shares Everton Premier League relegation prediction live on BBC as issues ‘come to light’

Everton could potentially be relegated this season if they don’t sign more players this summer, according to Reading and England women’s player Natasha Dowie.

The Merseyside club currently sit bottom of the standings after losing their first two matches of the new Premier League campaign.

Sean Dyche’s side opened proceedings with a 1-0 loss to Fulham at Goodison Park before a 4-0 defeat away to Aston Villa.

“I am massively surprised with regards to their recruitment and just how little they’ve done considering how they’ve been in two relegation battles and still haven’t seemed to address those areas,” Dowie said on the Football Daily podcast (22 August).

“We probably always focused on their struggles to score goals and that’s why they’ve been where they’ve been come the end of the season. But now it’s almost like their defensive issues have come to light as well. It’s an issue right now. They’ve got zero points.

“They need to bring some players in otherwise it’s going to be a long season for them and potentially they could go down if they don’t bring in some more bodies in this transfer window.”

More talent needed

Everton have already bolstered their squad in the summer transfer window, with Ashley Young joining on a free transfer, Jack Harrison and Arnaut Danjuma arriving on loan, and Youssef Chermiti joining from Sporting Lisbon.

The club’s financial struggles mean they cannot really afford to spend big like their Premier League rivals, and when they do dig into the funds available, they really do need to get it right.

It is too early to share a verdict on young striker Chermiti given how he has yet to appear for the Toffees, but the likes of Young and Danjuma haven’t exactly set Goodison Park alight just yet.

Harrison, who has arrived on loan from Leeds, is another who is yet to play for the Merseyside club due to his injury issues.

But Dyche needs the winger and forward Chermiti on the pitch as soon as possible if the club are to have any hope of scoring some much-needed goals.

In other Everton news, one pundit has shared a “bigger picture” verdict amid a Toffees transfer development.
