Seamus Coleman provides injury update as Everton ace not training with team

Everton captain Seamus Coleman has provided an update on the knee injury he sustained against Leicester City last season.

The Republic of Ireland defender was stretchered off in his club’s 2-2 Premier League with the Foxes at the beginning of May.

The 34-year-old, who is currently the competition’s longest-serving player, is not training with the rest of his teammates as he continues to recover.

“It was a significant injury but I am recovering well, hitting all the targets so far, being back on the grass over the last few weeks, not with the team but with the physios, back with the ball, and that,” Coleman told The42, as quoted by BBC Sport.

“Slowly but surely, it’s starting to feel better. Without putting a target on it, because that’s not what they are doing as such, it’s about reaching points and scores in the gym before you can move on.

“At the minute, I am doing all that. In six, eight weeks, maybe I will be back at it fully and feeling good.”

Big miss

Coleman has been a big miss for Everton both on and off the field, with the Toffees desperately short of leadership in these early stages of the season.

The Republic of Ireland international is a real leader, and he has proven that time and again across his lengthy career at Goodison Park.

And Toffees boss Sean Dyche really could do with his services given how his players are really bereft of confidence after two defeats from their two opening matches.

The Merseyside outfit have not been very fortunate with injuries lately, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin joining the sidelined list of players following his facial issue suffered against Aston Villa.

Alex Iwobi joined the striker in being removed early in that match at Villa Park with a hamstring issue, while Dele Alli and Dwight McNeil are also currently unavailable to Dyche.

They all need to come back as soon as possible if the club are to have any chance of putting up a fight this season.

In other Everton news, a BBC pundit has shared a Toffees Premier League relegation prediction as issues “come to light.”
