Everton make approach for Beto transfer – Fabrizio Romano

Everton have made an offer of up to €26million (£22.3m) for Udinese striker Beto, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer expert provided an update on his Twitter account on Thursday [24 August], but added that Everton’s bid is unlikely to be enough.

Romano tweeted: “Everton approached Udinese with initial €25/26m package for Portuguese striker Beto – he was already on #EFC list in January.

“Sources feel that’s not enough now to convince Udinese. Release clause into Beto’s contract: €35m.”

Much-needed quality

Everton’s need for at least one new striker has become increasingly apparent on the back of defeats-to-nil against Fulham and Aston Villa.

Throw Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s latest lay-off into the mix, and Everton really do have to go all out to land one of their targets over the next week.

Beto is a name that has got supporters excited, as the Portuguese has reached double figures for goals in the past two Serie A seasons.

There is no doubt that he would bring some much-needed additional quality to the Toffees’ front line, but time is running out for a deal to be struck.

If Romano’s latest update is anything to go by, Udinese look set to knock back Everton’s bid.

Worryingly for the Merseyside outfit, it appears that Udinese want more than £30m for the 25-year-old [Graeme Bailey].

That is some way off Everton’s valuation and, given time is not exactly on their side, it is difficult to see this transfer coming close to going through.

It makes for yet another frustrating transfer saga, following down a similar path to the seemingly failed pursuit of Leeds United’s Wilfried Gnonto.

With just eight days of the window remaining, it remains to be seen exactly who Everton will turn to next.
