Winner named in race for Everton-linked Leicester City striker Patson Daka

Bournemouth are set to complete the signing of Everton target Patson Daka, according to Alan Nixon.

The journalist confirmed via his official Patreon (25 August) that the Cherries are keen to bring in extra attacking options with the Zambia international available after he previously saw a move to Goodison Park break down.

Sean Dyche’s side were in for the 24-year-old, however couldn’t agree on a fee or loan deal with Leicester City for the transfer of the striker.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth were willing to do the deal and are now set to land their man.

Missed opportunity

Dyche needs a striker and Daka would have been a brilliant addition to the squad. He is still young, yet has plenty of Premier League as well as European experience and scored four times while providing four assists for the Foxes last season. This is especially impressive considering he played just over 1,400 minutes and was part of a poor Leicester team who were relegated.

Supporters on Merseyside will be incredibly frustrated by these latest developments as it represents a lack of ambition from their club. A side such as Bournemouth, which many would argue is not as big as the Toffees, shouldn’t be beating the club to transfer targets, especially not when it is a player in a priority area for Everton.

Everton

They are without a goal in their opening two Premier League matches this season and were the second-lowest scorers in the division last year.

The board could live to regret letting this one slip through their fingers, especially if Daka’s goals end up helping the Cherries finish above them.

In other Everton news, despite the MSP investment falling through, a deal could still be on for another striker from the Championship.
