Abdoulaye Doucoure reveals behind-the-scenes Everton transfer info

Abdoulaye Doucoure has revealed that Everton are working on more transfers before the end of the window while sending a message to his teammates.

Speaking after Everton’s 1-0 loss to Wolves on Saturday, as reported by the Liverpool Echo (26 August), the 30-year-old admitted the squad needs more players to help compete in the Premier League.

Doucoure was not shy to criticise his teammates, noting that Dyche’s men must be more “clinical” and “aggressive” as they find themselves at the foot of the table with no goals scored.

As quoted by the Liverpool Echo, Doucoure said: “The club is working on it. We need more players, more competition within the team. More players will help us.

“It’s very difficult to take. I think we were the better team, but as we know, we need to be clinical. We need to score that goal.

“We need to be more clinical. Wolves were not in the best shape today. We need to be more aggressive around the box.”

Improvements needed

Doucoure’s message to his players certainly rings true, and Everton fans will hope that any transfer business that the midfielder discussed can pay dividends for them.

Everton’s starting XI against Wolves was rather underwhelming considering the amount the club have spent over the last few seasons. Their biggest issue has been in front of goal, but Dyche, Doucoure and the Goodison Park faithful will hope that Beto’s imminent arrival from Udinese can solve this issue.

Fabrizio Romano claimed (27 August) that the 25-year-old is set to undergo a medical with the Toffees ahead of a £25.7million move to Goodison Park.

However, Everton do not have an issue creating chances or getting shots away so far this season, it’s the lack of clinical finishing that needs to be addressed, as Doucoure observed.

Doucoure’s message was clear. While the initial struggles are tough to take for anyone invested in Everton, the signs are there that just one more piece of the puzzle is needed to at least prevent another relegation battle this season.
