Beto reveals talk with former Everton ace Gerard Deulofeu before Goodison Park transfer

New Everton striker Beto talked with former Toffees ace Gerard Deulofeu before making his move to Goodison Park.

The duo were teammates at Serie A outfit Udinese before Beto decided to make the switch to the Toffees on Tuesday (29 August).

Deulofeu made 75 appearances for Everton, both on loan and as a permanet player, having also played in the Premier League for Watford.

“I talked to him the day before I travelled,” said Beto, as quoted by the official Everton website. “He told me Everton is a big club, has crazy fans, they love you and it is a really good club to play for.

“Words can’t express the feeling I have right now to play in Goodison Park because it was a stadium I admired when I was in high school.

“I always wanted to play there because of the city, the derby and everything. I think the fans at Everton are a little bit more of a step up than the other fans so I am excited to play in front of them.”

Big season ahead

Deulofeu was certainly well-liked at Goodison Park, with the exciting winger producing many top moments during his time at the club.

And his former Udinese teammate Beto will be hoping he can do the same in blue, with the striker set to play a key role under Sean Dyche in the months to come.

The Toffees have struggled massively in front of goal so far this season, with Dyche’s men failing to hit the back of the net in any of their three matches.

They have lost those three matches, leaving the Merseyside club sitting rock bottom of the table in these early stages of the campaign.

But Dyche is now doing his best to fix the problem, with the manager now turning to the skill and experience of Beto, having already brought fellow striker Youssef Chermiti to Goodison Park this summer.

Fellow forwards Arnaut Danjuma and Jack Harrison have also joined in an effort to improve the club’s success in the final third.

In other Everton news, an advanced Toffees player sale has collapsed with days left until the transfer window deadline.
