Alan Myers shares Everton transfer update with last-gasp deal now on cards
Everton could still add a goalscoring winger to their squad in a last-gasp transfer before the window closes, according to Alan Myers.
The news editor shared on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday (29 August) that the Toffees would still like to add one more wide option to their ranks before the 1 September deadline, with an extra goal scorer the ideal scenario.
Sean Dyche’s side remains the only Premier League side who have failed to score a goal so far this season, drawing a blank in each of their first three league matches and they are looking to add to their ranks at the end of the transfer window in hope of ending their recent struggles.
Alex Iwobi has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park, with Fulham holding an interest in the Nigerian winger [Myers, 29 August] and Dyche is keen to potentially replace him with a more clinical winger in the final days of the transfer window.
Need goals
Everton need to start scoring some goals. That was their biggest problem last season and once again their torrid form in front of goal has been their biggest issue early in this campaign and Dyche is right to think about reinforcing other areas of the pitch with goal scorers.
There has been a reliance in recent seasons on Dominic Calvert-Lewin to score the Toffees’ goals and when he has been out of the side with injury, no one has stepped up to take over that goalscoring mantel from other areas of the pitch.
Arnaut Danjuma does tend to thrive when deployed off of the wing and is more than capable of hitting double figures for goals, as shown during his time both with Villarreal and Bournemouth, so Dyche’s answer may be staring him in the face.

But for the Toffees to navigate the relegation battle they’re already facing this season, they truly should be signing much more than just one more player between now and the end of the transfer window. Although their need for goals is great, they have been pulled apart far too easily in defence.
If Iwobi leaves the need for a new winger becomes much greater, but until he does you have to wonder if Dyche would be better off spending the limited money at his disposal in defence rather than on another winger. Especially as goal scorers can be so expensive.
In other Everton news, there are already some fears as to whether Beto is capable of scoring the goals Everton need
