Dramatic twist as Tom Cannon could now seal permanent Everton exit

Middlesbrough are making a “dramatic” late move to sign Everton striker Tom Cannon on a permanent deal, after the Merseyside club completed the signing of Beto, according to Alan Nixon.

The newspaper journalist shared via his Patreon page on 30 August that Cannon has now been cleared to depart Goodison Park, with a permanent deal now on the cards after they entertained previous loan offers.

It is also shared that Sunderland could rival Boro in their bid to secure his signature, while Preston will have to attempt to buy Cannon after having previously offered the best loan deal for him.

A surprise late twist

Having spent the latter half of last season on loan at Deepdale, it seemed like Cannon would be heading back to Preston on another loan deal after the Lancashire club offered the best deal for him amid other loan offers.

Middlesbrough’s permanent offer has now thrown a spanner in the works, and Everton could look to cash in now on the player who has struggled to make an impact at Goodison despite their striker issues, with another academy graduate Lewis Dobbin the preferred option, it seems.

Previous reports shared that Everton had been putting off allowing Cannon to leave the club until they were able to find a new striker, but the delays between receiving loan offers and completing the deal for Beto have allowed the situation to face a drastic change.

There is no doubt Preston will feel hard done by, as they believed they would see their previous loanee return to the club after an impressive loan spell where he scored eight goals in 21 appearances, but they will now have to come up with the cash for a permanent deal.

In other Everton news, the club have added another PL attacker to their transfer shortlist.
